Clobetasol is a highly potent topical corticosteroid. It reduces the actions of chemicals in the body that cause inflammation.
Common: A feeling of burning, and rounding of the face., veins under the skin may look prominent.Rare: Increased risk of infection, thinning and dryness of your skin and it may also damage or wrinkle more easily, pain, high blood pressure, irritation or itching where the cream is applied.Uncommon: Stretch marks on skin, rash, increase or reduction in hair growth or hair loss and changes in skin color, an allergic skin reaction, weight gain, reduction in bone density, itchy bumpy skin or redness of the skin
Clobetasol is used to treat itching, redness, dryness, swelling, and discomfort of various scalp and skin conditions, including immune-mediated skin disease with red scaly patches (psoriasis).
Always clean the skin before a fresh dressing is put on since the germs can cause infections under warm and moist conditions under dressings. Make sure you wash your hands after use or wear disposable plastic gloves while applying the cream on someone. Cream should be used on skin externally only. Treatment beyond 2- 4 consecutive weeks is not recommended, and the total dosage should not exceed 50 g per week.If your skin problem does not improve in 2 to 4 weeks, talk to your doctor. Do not use in conditions such as
- Fungal skin infections, eg. athlete's foot, ringworm, candida skin infections.
- Severe flushing of skin on and around your nose (rosacea).
- Spotty red rash around your mouth (perioral dermatitis).
- Infected skin (unless the infection is being treated with an anti-infective medicine at the same time).
- Itchy skin around the genitals or back passage.
- Itchy skin which is not inflamed.
- Nappy rash
- Widespread plaque psoriasis.
